George Howells recently shared his thoughts on Asystole and said,
“I found this book intense from start to finish. It never gave me a moment to relax, but I liked that. The tension was constant, whether it was in the hospital or at home. Kilbride’s character annoyed me sometimes, but he also made me think. He represents the side of science that pushes forward no matter what, while others around him represent compassion. That balance is what kept me turning the pages. It’s a heavy book, but a meaningful one.”
I appreciate George’s honesty about Kilbride. Creating a character who challenges readers was something I wanted to do. The tension throughout the story was meant to keep that edge, reflecting the high stakes of the hospital and the personal struggles happening alongside. Balancing ambition and compassion is at the core of this story, so I’m glad that came through and held attention.
